Michele Sellers is the founder of Forever Free Community Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to increasing access to quality mental health care in rural communities across Polk County, North Carolina, and northern Spartanburg County, South Carolina.
Michele’s work in mental health began long before becoming a licensed clinician. She first served as a lay minister, providing counseling and support to teens, young adults, and couples preparing for marriage. These early experiences cultivated a deep passion for walking alongside individuals and families through life’s challenges with compassion, hope, and practical support.
Throughout most of her professional career, Michele has worked in community health settings, serving individuals with complex mental health needs, including those with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. Her work has consistently centered on underserved and vulnerable populations, with a strong commitment to reducing barriers to care and ensuring that quality treatment is accessible to everyone.
Michele has also served on several collaborative committees and leadership teams focused on improving mental health care in Western North Carolina and surrounding communities. She has contributed to ECHO initiatives aimed at increasing awareness of best practices in mental health treatment for specialized populations. In addition, she co-led efforts to develop a more integrated treatment team for eating disorders, working to bring geographically closer and more coordinated resources to individuals and families in Western North Carolina.
After transitioning into private practice, Michele founded Forever Free Community Foundation to continue advancing her mission of expanding access to care beyond the traditional office setting. Through the foundation, she is leading efforts to reduce financial and geographic barriers to treatment by supporting access to mental health counseling, psychiatric services, and medication-assisted treatment (MAT).
Under Michele’s leadership, Forever Free Community Foundation partners with local healthcare providers, churches, schools, and community organizations to bring care closer to home for those who need it most. The foundation currently serves Polk County, North Carolina, and rural northern Spartanburg County communities, including Landrum, Inman, and Campobello.
Michele believes healing happens when people feel seen, supported, and connected to meaningful resources. Her vision for Forever Free Community Foundation is rooted in the belief that mental health care should be accessible, compassionate, and available to every person—regardless of location, income, or circumstance.
